About Us

What We Believe

Holy Scripture: We believe the Bible to be the inspired Word of God, and accept the same as the only infallible guide and rule of our faith and practice.

The Godhead: We believe in the eternal omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, and immutable triune God; maker of heaven and earth, and all that in them is; and in the unity of the Godhead there are Three persons God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit equal in every divine perfection and attribute, executing distinct, but harmonious offices, in the great work of redemption.

The Fall of Man: We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but that in Adam’s sin the human race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God, and that man is totally depraved and, of himself utterly unable to remedy his lost condition.

The Plan of Redemption: We believe that Christ was the Lamb of God, foreordained from the foundation of the world, and by the shedding of His blood on the cross made provision for salvation for ALL men.

Daily Christian Life: We believe that having been cleansed by the blood, and quickened by the Spirit, it is God’s will that we should be sanctified daily, and be made partakers of His holiness walking not after the flesh but after the Spirit; forsaking the very appearance of evil, such as worldly dress, worldly amusements, worldly conversation, worldly habits, etc.

Water Baptism: We believe that water baptism by immersion, in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, is commanded by God; that it is subsequent to conversion, that it is not a saving ordinance, but an outward sign of an inward work.

Is God Real

We know that God is real because He has revealed Himself to us in three ways: in creation, in His Word, and in His Son, Jesus Christ.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”
Psalms 19:1

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse”
Romans 1:20

Why am I here?

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end”
Ecclesiastes 3:11

Mankind is God’s workmanship. We are like clay in the hands of the Master Potter (Isaiah 64:8), who is molding us according to His purpose. God’s great desire is to finish the work of His hands, and that completion will come through the RESURRECTION–the great change that will bridge the gulf between mortal and immortal. Then and only then will His work of creation be finished.

The reason God and eternity weigh so heavily on our minds is because God is pressing the issue. God wants to be known. He created us with the intent that we know Him. He has surrounded us with evidence of Himself and He keeps the question of His existence squarely before us.

How do I start a relationship with God?

Jesus Christ is the only way to God the Father and His dwelling place, heaven. There is no other way into the Kingdom of God! Jesus Christ is God’s only plan of eternal salvation for the entire world.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”
John 3:16.

Who is Jesus?

He is God’s only begotten son, yet He came from the throne of His Father and became the Son of Man that we might become sons of God.

He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of a virgin. He lived in poverty, and had neither wealth nor influence.

“The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”– which means, “God with us
Matthew 1:23

“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:11

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 14:6

“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Acts 4:12

I want to receive Jesus

We receive Jesus by believing in His name. As a result, we accept Him as the authority of our lives and obey Him.

“And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation”
Hebrews 5:9

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 6:23″

If you are ready please pray this prayer with us,

“God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross at Calvary, and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.”

The Story

S.O.U.L. has been meeting the needs of the streets since 1995.

It began with the obedience of two men, Robert Shuemake and Leon Birdd. Robert, a stranger to Leon, was walking down the road and his step was unsteady. As Leon noticed the man, the Holy Spirit spoke to his heart and told Leon to pick the man up and give him a ride. At first Leon resisted the still small voice, but the voice got louder and Leon surrendered. He made friends with the stranger and Robert told him a story of love and compassion for those in need.

What we haven’t mentioned is that Robert had experienced five brain operations and that is why he stumbled. Robert invited Leon to join him the following Saturday at 5:30 am to visit the streets of Downtown Dallas. Pastor Leon hesitated, even said “no” but when Saturday morning came Leon thought he’d better pass by and make sure Mr. Shuemake wasn’t waiting. As he drove past Roberts house, there stood the faithful servant with five gallons of coffee waiting at the curb. The two loaded up and off to “Dunk-n Donuts” they went.

As they arrived downtown there were no people. So they waited. About the time Pastor Leon began to doubt, one by one the people of the streets started showing up. About fifty showed up that day and Leon decided this was for him. As time went on Robert’s health declined and one day Pastor Leon asked “Robert what happens when you can’t do this anymore”? Robert answered “you’ll do it”, Leon said “No, you really need to get someone else”. Robert looked at Pastor Leon and again said “you’ll do it” and the rest is history.

S.O.U.L. has gone from “coffee and donuts” to an early morning church service in a parking lot in Downtown Dallas as well as an OPEN AIR OUTREACH.

Mr.  Shuemake now rest in the arms of Christ but his heart is still with us. The people of the streets are our friends as well as  members of  S.O.U.L. Church and we truly love them. Please pray for us, revival in the streets, and for the lost to listen for the voice, and reconcile with to the one who created them. In Jesus Name. Amen!

Our Mission

Ministering to homeless men, women and children living on the streets and in shelters near Downtown Dallas since 1995.

Born and raised poor in Kenosha, WI, Pastor Leon had dreams that did not include the poor and the lost. But after he surrendered his life to Christ in 1994, Pastor Leon began to hear the voice of God which eventually  led to ministry on the streets of Dallas Texas.

Our Mission… More SOULS

S.O.U.L. Church exists for the primary purpose of spreading the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. S.O.U.L is headed up by Pastor Leon Birdd and consist of humble servants of all denominations across the Metroplex and North Texas.

Each and every Sunday morning the “Servants Of oUr Lord” do God’s bidding, feeding the minds, bodies, and souls of the homeless community in Downtown Dallas. What sets S.O.U.L. Church apart is the radiance and evidence of  love that God’s people express to the lost and lonely. There is nothing extravagant about our  OPEN AIR MINISTRY. We believe in the transforming power of God’s truth as we dispel it into the hearts of our homeless brothers and sisters of downtown Dallas.

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing even the soul and spirit.” (Heb 4:12).

We believe the strongest message you can give to a dying world is that of a living Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. That message is proclaimed every Sunday morning, as the Lord’s servants show the love of Christ. We love with no strings attached just as our Lord has loved us.

Pastor Leon would like to see all the churches lay down their denominational differences, come together and unite as one body reaching out to the lost.
